Movember: Changing the Face of Men’s Health
So as we are familiar with by now – it’s MO-vember! The hairiest time of the year, where men grow their upper lip sweaters, proudly becoming a walking billboard for mens’ health. Funds and awareness are raised for the Movember Foundation and their men’s health partners such as The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue – the national depression initiative.
Gender is a strong and quite consistent predictor of health and life expectancy and for men this is not good news. On average, men die 6 years earlier than women and poor mental health affects men more than women as well; three quarters of suicides are by men. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide and sadly, the number of cases is expected to nearly double by 2030.
How do we help tackle this doom and gloom and remind ourselves that we can make a difference? By getting involved of course! Ladies too can now get off the sidelines and into the action of Movember! … err… no, not by manifesting hair on their upper lips… by commiting to MOVE for Movember! “Mo Sistas“ pledge to move every day for 30 days;no amount of physical activity being too big or too small. Along the way, raising funds for the Movember Foundation too.
